A Family Cow

A Family Cow

Ginger

Mrs. Mast wanted a Family Cow. A family cow is simply a cow that supplies milk for a family. It’s been years since I owned a cow. Cows require attention. Attention 2x per day at the minimum. I was reluctant to add a milking cow to our farm at this time…so we bought Ginger. She’s only about 2 months old and it will be some time before she is ready to milk. Technically she has not yet reached ‘cow’ status. She would be considered a heifer calf. Don’t expect to see any milk from Ginger on the Doorstep Menu:)

However, if you are interested in raw milk, we do have it available for home delivery. I don’t know the names of the cows that provide this milk…but I do know that it is delicious. The Oasis Creamery in Ronks, PA, provides us with pasteurized and raw milk products.

I’ll probably be giving some updates on Ginger from time to time. If you stop by our farm stand this summer…you might see her grazing in the pasture.

Note:

  • Next week will be the final week for Apple Cider. It will be back in the fall.
  • Clementines and Baby Carrots have been removed from the menu.
