What qualifies me to write a blog about Zook’s Chicken Pie? Well for starters I see them everyday, so we have become pretty good friends. Two, I’ve had the pleasure of eating one (possibly more than one). Third, I’m fat, and you can always trust a fat guy when it comes to food. Fourth, I can dance, which I’m not sure has any relevance - but I felt compelled to share it.
If I had to sum up the Chicken Pie or “meat pie” as we at Doorstep Dairy call it in the field using one sentence I would have to say - PA Dutch cooking at it’s finest. It’s that simple. When I opened the package I noticed it was frozen.. hmm - I thought frozen food was bad food? How is this going to be fresh? All those thoughts were quickly forgotten 1 hour and 350 degrees later. Wow. The carrots, the peas, the potatoes, they all taste fresh. The pie crust is buttery, soft, melts in your mouth. This is great I say, but I quickly realize this pie is only 8” round. How is this going to fill me up? I’m a faaa.. I can dance remember? Well.. cue in the magical power of PA Dutch cooking! I’m not sure how it happens or how they do it but an 8” pie easily fed my wife and I for dinner. We even had leftovers for the next day. Remember - this is coming from the guy who can take down a 16” pizza by himself and have room for dessert.
In conclusion, if you are “on the fence” about purchasing a Chicken Pie from Doorstep Dairy on your next order - jump off said fence, grab an oven, grab a bib, and taste the “magic” that is a Zook’s Chicken Pie. You will not be disappointed!
