As we approach Ash Wednesday. Lent and fasnacht’s are on my mind. Or is it fastnacht?
I struggled with spelling in school…still do sometimes. But isn’t English supposed to be one of the harder languages to master? Why can’t we choose either a ‘c’ or a ‘k’ and shorten the alphabet for starters?
What with words like…
- “acknowledgment” or “acknowledgement”
- “adapter” or “adaptor”
- “adviser” or “advisor”
- “ambience” or “ambiance”
- “doughnut” or “donut”
… how does one know what is correct? Or are there no amoral absolutes when it comes to spelling?
For now, I will rely on spell check and Grammarly to guide me.
So how do you spell fasnacht?
BTW - Fasnachts are on the menu and will be available for several weeks.
Fasnachts Day is on March 3rd.
