On the Town

On the Town

It’s rare that we, and by ‘we’ I mean my wife and 5 sons, get to go out together. And when I say, ‘go out’, I mean, go out on the town. And what does ‘out on the town’ even mean.? 🤷🏼‍♂️

The Friday after New Year’s Day seemed to be the right time. My oldest son was returning to school on Sunday, and nobody else had plans…unheard of. AND, the Doorstep Dairy Team had blessed our family with a generous gift card to the Blue Bird Inn. So, we went.

The Blue Bird Inn is located in Cornwall, PA (Lebanon County). I think Lebanon Levi may have visited here a time or two🤠.

The Inn was built in 1839 and was originally called Ye Old Golden Key Hotel. During Prohibition, it was a speak-easy called Molly’s Tea Room. In the 1930’s the Inn was under new ownership and was renamed the Blue Bird Tea Room and later the Blue Bird Inn. In 1996, the Inn was purchased by its current owner. Renovations have been done and the building, in my opinion, is beautiful.

I am always encouraged when I see small independent establishments succeeding. This Inn is located ‘off the beaten path’. It’s surrounded by farmland on one side and a few houses on the other. And it was busy. We had reservations, which I’m sure are needed if you want to ensure a place at the table.

Anyway, a big thanks to the Doorstep Dairy Team for introducing us to this gem! And if you are ever looking for a unique dining experience, check out the Blue Bird Inn for yourself. And if you get there, look up at the ceiling fans. The ceiling fans are cool!

In other none Doorstep Dairy-related news.

My wife started something new for 2025. She’s begun to learn the art of fine kombucha making. That’s right, we’re getting healthy folks:)

Momma Mast’s first four quarts of deliciousness. The dark jars are grape. Flavored with some of Finger Lake Concords that she canned last Fall. The lighter jars are strawberry. The grape was our favorite. She has a second batch brewing. I saw some raw ginger root in this week’s grocery list. I think the plan is to pair the ginger with some of last summer’s frozen blueberries…we will see.
