Sweet Corn…

Many local farmstands have begun offering freshly picked sweet corn to their customers. It’s July, it’s hot, it’s sweet corn time!

Our family planted just enough corn for us to enjoy corn on the cob a few times and freeze some for the winter. My brother James has provided Doorstep Dairy customers with sweet corn for the past few years. I spoke with him today…it won’t be long now. You’ll be able to buy half a dozen OR 4 dozen boxes. This is a great option if you want to freeze corn for the winter. I will keep you posted.

This is my favorite way to cook sweet corn. Soak the ears with the husks on, in water for several hours. Then build a nice fire. You’ll need a grate too. (a gas grill would work too). Let them cook. Turn from time to time. Let them cook until the husks are burnt black. When I peel back the husk, I like to see burnt kernels. Slather (a word we don’t use often enough) with butter and shake a good amount of salt on there too. Then chomp that thing. Repeat.

Hey, with all this hot weather lately, don’t forget to hydrate. We have bottled water, seltzer water, and soda pop (these will rot your teeth and not quench your thirst…but they are tasty :)
