Stella

Stella

Last week, Frosty gave birth to a black ewe lamb…Stella. In the afternoon, we discovered that she was going to have twins. She was having difficulty delivering. We tried to assist…but had no success.

We called Dr. Cynthia, a seasoned vet. She even had her own flock of sheep for years. She made every effort to deliver the second lamb. It was a tough day. We lost Frosty and Lamb number 2:(

Stella had about 24 hours with her momma. Now she’s an orphan and we’ll be assuming the parental role for her. Feeding every 4-5 hours for the next 2 weeks, it almost feels like a newborn baby.

Stella follows us around, almost like a puppy. Our goal is to return her to the flock with her half-siblings at some point. For now, we take her for walks to the pasture to visit the other sheep. They are curious. She can run around with the other lambs, nibble on grass, and chase the cows. When we walk away…she follows us. I guess she feels more connected to us than to the other sheep. My guess is, someday we’ll walk away…and she’ll choose to stay in the pasture. We will see.
