Fastnacht’s Day, Lent, Valentine’s Day, Super Bowl (is this even a holiday?), St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.
As I’m looking ahead on the calendar and anticipating what foods correspond with upcoming holidays…it is clear to me that there is a lot on the horizon.
Fastnacht’s Day is on February 13th this year. This ‘floating’ holiday is determined by the date of Easter. This year Easter is on March 31st. Fastnachts have German origins. Traditionally, Fastnachts were a way to empty the pantry of fats and sugar before the fasting days of Lent began. Lent begins the day after Fastnacht Day. Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter. In the Christian church, many people ’ give up’ something for Lent. It is a symbolistic practice imitating the 40 days that Jesus fasted in the wilderness before He began His public ministry.
This year, Fastnacht Day is the day before Valentine’s Day and the whole week begins with the Super Bowl. So, as you can see…there are many things to celebrate and many food needs to be fulfilled :)
So in celebration of Fastnacts Day, we have 4 varieties available, and you’ll want to try some of each😊

I’d like to reintroduce Philly Fair Trade Roasters. You can read more about them here, and see what all we have to offer from this newly relocated roaster. One thing I will mention, PFTR will be fresh roasting your order every Monday. You order by noon on Friday, the beans will be roasted on Monday, and delivered to you the same week!
